WWJD?

I'm a sucker for t-shirts! I've got tees ranging from short phrases like "What if the hokey-pokey really is what it's all about" to an old Mr. Bubble shirt.

A couple of months ago I was browsing one of my favorite t-shirt sites and came across a shirt that completely cracked me up.

It had a giant set of overly familiar letters across the front of it

WWJD

You know...I nearly passed up looking at the shirt because I'd been so burned out of the whole WWJD craze from working in a Christian bookstore.

But then I noticed some smaller words that I couldn't make out so I clicked on the link to blow the image up.

The shirt now read...

WWJD
for a Klondike bar?

Call it sacrilegious if you must but I thought it was hilarious. I lost it! I then couldn't help but think...

What WOULD Jesus do for a Klondike bar?

Would He speak one into existence?

Would He even like it?

Then THAT got me thinking about what He would do about "WWJD?"

Would He be pleased?

Would He embrace the idea?

Would He be disappointed that profits were being made from His name?

IS there someone out there raking it in?

If so, are they giving any back to the One that provided it in the first place?

THEN THAT got me thinking about christian bookstores and how some of them now offer credit cards even though the Bible talks about how borrowing isn't the best of practices. (Romans 13:8, Proverbs 22:7)

Would He turn the tables over like He did in the temple?

Anyway. I didn't really have a point to this I guess. Call me a devil's advocate. It's something to think about right?

And to think all this came from a silly little t-shirt.

Bruises and Cuts

Sunday night I was coming out of my office on my way to the bathroom. I took about two steps into our den and about half way into the third step my foot challenged our exercise bike to a duel.

My foot lost!

The bike's well placed blow struck me right on the outside edge of the ball of my foot just below my little toe.

The sound of the impact was enough to wake my wife up from her nap in the recliner. As I limped off to the bathroom; now walking on the inside of my foot, my wife had the sympathy pain look on her face as she said "sorry".

I sucked it up and went the rest of the night not thinking too much about it and went to bed.

Monday morning I Woke up to my alarm at 6:30.

Hit snooze.

Woke up again at 6:39.

I threw off the covers, place my feet on the floor, pushed myself out of bed then nearly fell to the floor. My foot was KILLING ME!

I looked at the bottom of my foot and didn't see any visible bruising, but I sure felt it. Throughout most of the day I was hobbling around like a wounded duck.

I had the occasional person ask me why I was limping and I'd go through pretty much just as I have on here. As a matter of fact, if you want a taste of what the day was like just re-read to this point about a dozen or so times. Fun stuff right?

So why is it that a bruise; especially one you can't even see, can slow you down so much and keep you from going about your normal routines?

~OR~

How is it that when you put a band-aid on a cut you suddenly seem to completely lose the use of that finger?

Sin is very much like that.

If you're like me I'm sure you can think of several time where you tried to keep a sin "hidden". You were the ONLY person that knew anything about your sin and you would go about your day as if you were spotless.

You might not notice right away but you've just bruised our spirit. It will begin to get more and more difficult to go about your spiritual routine.

Psalm 19 : 12-13

Who can discern his errors? Forgive me of my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins.; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

The first sins David confesses are his hidden ones. These are the dangerous ones.

They are the ones I find myself saying "what's the harm in this?" or "this isn't going to hurt anyone".

They are the footholds; the entry point.

They will lead to spiritual downfall if we don't open our eyes to what they are doing.

They are a MUST to avoid if we want to walk in the spirit bruise free.

Flushing Autumn

What is Flushing Autumn you ask? Well, literally it would be...

Flushing -
to wash out by a sudden rush of water.

Autumn -
A period of maturity verging on decline. "drying-up season"

Yeah yeah yeah, but what IS Flushing Autumn???

To be perfectly honest with you, it was the band name I was going to use for some of my more somber piano based songs. It may very well still go that direction but it's not in my hands to decide. For now it will just be the focus of my first attempt at this whole blogging thing.

Yes. I know. I still haven't answers the question yet.

Ezekiel 36 : 25-27 (niv)

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

THAT is what Flushing Autumn is!

1. We're cleaned by a rush of water (v.26)
2. We lose our OLD and DECAYING heart and gain a NEW one. (v.26)
3. We will be MOVED! (v.27)

Ephesians 4 : 22-24 (niv)

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

What is Flushing Autumn?

It's getting rid of what "once was", turning around and moving to what "is" and what "will be"!

What is Flushing Autumn?

For now it's just the blog of guy who is changing.

It's just the blog of a guy who thought it would be another way to be held accountable.

It's just the blog of a guy who's placing it in the hands of the one who already knows what Flushing Autumn is and will be.

It's just a blog....for now.
