Bruises and Cuts

Sunday night I was coming out of my office on my way to the bathroom. I took about two steps into our den and about half way into the third step my foot challenged our exercise bike to a duel.

My foot lost!

The bike's well placed blow struck me right on the outside edge of the ball of my foot just below my little toe.

The sound of the impact was enough to wake my wife up from her nap in the recliner. As I limped off to the bathroom; now walking on the inside of my foot, my wife had the sympathy pain look on her face as she said "sorry".

I sucked it up and went the rest of the night not thinking too much about it and went to bed.

Monday morning I Woke up to my alarm at 6:30.

Hit snooze.

Woke up again at 6:39.

I threw off the covers, place my feet on the floor, pushed myself out of bed then nearly fell to the floor. My foot was KILLING ME!

I looked at the bottom of my foot and didn't see any visible bruising, but I sure felt it. Throughout most of the day I was hobbling around like a wounded duck.

I had the occasional person ask me why I was limping and I'd go through pretty much just as I have on here. As a matter of fact, if you want a taste of what the day was like just re-read to this point about a dozen or so times. Fun stuff right?

So why is it that a bruise; especially one you can't even see, can slow you down so much and keep you from going about your normal routines?

~OR~

How is it that when you put a band-aid on a cut you suddenly seem to completely lose the use of that finger?

Sin is very much like that.

If you're like me I'm sure you can think of several time where you tried to keep a sin "hidden". You were the ONLY person that knew anything about your sin and you would go about your day as if you were spotless.

You might not notice right away but you've just bruised our spirit. It will begin to get more and more difficult to go about your spiritual routine.

Psalm 19 : 12-13

Who can discern his errors? Forgive me of my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins.; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

The first sins David confesses are his hidden ones. These are the dangerous ones.

They are the ones I find myself saying "what's the harm in this?" or "this isn't going to hurt anyone".

They are the footholds; the entry point.

They will lead to spiritual downfall if we don't open our eyes to what they are doing.

They are a MUST to avoid if we want to walk in the spirit bruise free.
